Delilah — Bad to the Bone
“Bad Girls of the Bible”
Judges 13:2-5, 24-25, ”A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was childless, unable to give birth. 3 The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, ‘You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son. 4 Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean. 5 You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.’ 24 The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the Lord blessed him, 25 and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him while he was in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.”
- “Nazirite” means someone _____________, separated or dedicated.
- Samson didn‘t make this _________ personally! _______________.
See Judges 14:6; 14:19; and 15:14-15
- Samson _________________________vow after vow after vow.
Judges 16:4-5, ”Some time later, he fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah. 5 The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, ‘See if you can lure him into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.’”
See Judges 16:6-9; 10-12; 13-14; 15-16; 17
- So why was Samson so foolish? Because Samson didn’t think _____________________. He had lived his whole life in complete disregard of his __________________, and his strength had never left him. So why care now?
See Judges 16:18-30
- What’s the take away?

Reduction of Sin by Letting God IN
Romans 8:38-39 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- _________________ of sin, by letting ______________in!
1 John 5:14 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us.
Hebrews 3:13 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Romans 8:26 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
- You purposely ________________ God ___________ life.

What God Cannot Do!
- The single most important question: Who is ____________? The second most important question: What is the ___________ ________?
Mark 3:28-29, ”Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”
Matthew 12:31-32, ”And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”
Luke 12:10, “And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.”
See John 16:8-9; John 15:26; and John 3:3-7
- To blasphemy the Holy Spirit, means that you show the Holy Spirit and His work __________. You ___________ Him.
- The person who repeatedly, continually, without repentance rejects ________________ in their life, (Who is) promoting Jesus and testifying to Jesus… that person blasphemes the Holy Spirit.

How Does It End? “Crazy, Reckless Love”
See Hosea 2:2-13
Hosea 2:14-17, 19-20, 23, “Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her.15 There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. There she will respond as in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt. ‘In that day,’ declares the Lord, ‘you will call Me “My husband”; you will no longer call Me “My master.” 17 I will remove the names of the Baals from her lips; no longer will their names be invoked. I will betroth you to Me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. 20 I will betroth you in faithfulness and you will acknowledge the Lord. I will plant her for Myself in the land; I will show My love to the one I called “Not My loved one.” I will say to those called “Not My people,” You are My people’; and they will say, “You are my God.”’“
Hosea 3:13, “The Lord said to me, ‘Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.’”
- God’s not going _______________ and His _______________ for you is not going _______________. There’s nothing you can do that will make Him love you less. But ________________________ you?
Hosea 14:1-4, “Return, Israel, to the Lord your God, Your sins have been your downfall! 2 Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him: ‘Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips. Assyria cannot save us; we will not mount warhorses. We will never again say “Our gods” to what our own hands have made, for in You the fatherless find compassion.’ ‘I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for My anger has turned away from them.’”
- God goes after us at our ______________, He keeps after us throughout our life, and if we turn to Him, makes us into lovers even when we knew _________________ of love.

You and communion
Daily rituals can make life easier. Having a routine for getting ready for work every morning, for instance, can help us start each day happier and more efficiently. But, we have to be careful that we don’t allow important matters, especially spiritual matters, to become ritualistic. This runs the risk of becoming mechanistic and robotic. Sometimes it’s extremely important that we be thoughtful and introspective. Taking communion is one such time.
Ask yourself what you are thinking about when you take communion. Are you simply consuming the emblems without thinking about what they represent? Are you taking communion in a way that respects the Bible’s instructions on how to do so?
Partaking of the Lord’s Supper is probably the most important part of our service. When done correctly, it can re-center us on Christ for the week ahead.
1 Corinthians 11:27-28 (NIV)
27 So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.
Prior to taking communion, we are told to examine ourselves. It’s a time to reflect on our relationship with Christ. It’s a time to reflect on our sin and seek forgiveness. It’s a time to reflect on how we can improve our Christian walk.
Partaking of the Lord’s Supper is a serious matter. Were it not, there would be no instructions in the Bible on how to participate in this memorial. We should take care to not let it become “ordinary” or “robotic.” We should engage ourselves, heart, soul, mind and body every time we partake.

Do Not Lean on Your Own Understanding
Read part 1 first, Trust In The Lord.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Don’t Lean on Your Understanding
The verse involves a positive–something you must do. But it also involves a negative–something you must not do. Don’t lean on your own understanding. Basically, the verse is telling us that we ought not to be self-reliant. We cannot pursue a course of action, a financial decision, a business move, a relationship, or an educational choice, simply based on our own understanding. It must be founded in our trust in God.
Self-reliance is such a deceptive trap. We begin to pride ourselves in something–our savvy, our looks, our intellect, our spirituality, our family, whatever. And when we do, it takes away our trust in the Lord. It has become trust in self. The result is a dangerous compromise that will lead to destruction.
